The Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishermen Salmon Derby has just concluded with a record-breaking number of fish registered in over 13 years. This three-day event attracted 336 anglers and 40 children, who participated in the Kids' Fish Derby. Despite challenging boating conditions due to fog on Lake Michigan, the event was a resounding success. The winners of the Salmon Derby were Dennis Remiker, Rich Schoenern, Dean Ballmann, Dustin Groh, and Brandon Knepprath, each catching a different species of fish. The Super Tournament winners, Dave Seefeldt and his team, showcased their fishing prowess with a total weight of 79.12 pounds, winning a substantial prize of $1,700. The event's success is a testament to the hard work of the volunteers and the community's support, as well as the event sponsors. The Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishermen organization expressed their gratitude for the volunteers' contributions. Moving forward, Joe's Clays in Reedsville will host a Lewis Shoot, offering participants the opportunity to shoot one or both days. The Two Rivers Fish Derby, which will take place from July 17-19, promises a fun-filled day with guaranteed prizes, live music, and food to support local youth and community projects. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is also seeking residents' help in tracking game bird populations through its Game Bird Survey. This survey, open until August 31, aims to monitor the reproductive status of wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, and pheasants by tracking ratios of adults to juveniles. The data collected will assist DNR scientists in making informed management decisions for these species. Participation in the survey is straightforward and can be done using a mobile device. The survey's success relies on the active involvement of the community, and the DNR encourages everyone interested in wildlife to take part.
