Imagine waking up to a cold, dark house with no electricity, and you’re not alone—nearly 1,000 homes are in the same boat. That’s exactly what happened this morning (Friday, January 30) near the Somerset county border, where a massive power cut left residents in the dark. But here’s where it gets even more frustrating: as of 9:50 a.m., 993 homes were still without power, despite National Grid’s efforts to restore it. The outage, which began at 9:26 a.m., affected a total of 1,459 properties in and around Dulverton, Exebridge, and Morebath. While 446 homes have had their power restored, the wait continues for the rest. National Grid has pinpointed the issue to a fault in the high-voltage power lines, and they estimate that power should be back up by 11 a.m. But this is the part most people miss: how vulnerable our power infrastructure can be to single points of failure.
