A long-standing era is ending: A national furniture chain, a familiar name for nearly eight decades, is shutting down all its stores across the country. This news signals a significant shift in the retail landscape.
This furniture chain, known for its budget-friendly offerings, is closing all of its Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture locations nationwide. Currently, there are 79 Value City Furniture stores spread across 13 states, and 10 American Signature Furniture stores in 10 states.

It's important to note that, as of the original publication, there were no locations in Alabama.
The parent company, American Signature Inc., based in Ohio, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2025. Initially, the company stated that all Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture stores, along with their websites, would remain operational. However, the situation has changed. This week, the company announced going-out-of-business sales, with discounts of up to 50 percent on a wide range of products, including home furnishings, furniture, decor, lighting, mattresses, and rugs.
Here's what the company stated on its website: "Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture stores and websites remain open at this time and will continue to fulfill customer orders and provide ongoing customer service to the best of its ability throughout the court-supervised process."
But here's where it gets controversial... The website's statement is somewhat limited, specifying that the company would do its "best to fulfill customer orders for products that are currently in stock." Customers who have already placed a deposit but haven't received their order may have the option to file a claim. The website provides a link to the bankruptcy site for more information.
Furthermore, the chain is no longer accepting gift cards or offering refunds for unfulfilled orders.
